Mayaya’s arrest brings unity in MCP

The arrest of human right activist Billy Mayaya seems to have brought some sort of unity in the mighty opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP).

Mayaya was arrested on Tuesday at area 18 roundabout in the capital Lilongwe as he was about to lead Malawians in demonstrating against the frequent power outages in the country.

His arrest has seen suspended MCP’s spokesperson Jessie Kabwila sharing a seat with the Party’s Deputy Secretary General Eisenhower Mkaka.

Kabwila was suspended from the Party together with lawmaker Joseph Njobvuyalema for allegedly having a hand in the botched torching of MCP headquarters in the capital Lilongwe.

Recently Kabwila refused to appear before disciplinary hearing, saying the invitation was not formal.

MCP is currently rocked in serious leadership squabbles with Chatinkha Chizanja Nkhoma calling for the immediate resignation of the Party’s President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.

Nkhoma who was reinstated by the Court recently is accusing Chakwera of practicing nepotism.
