Information sourced by FaceofMalawi indicates that Chief Cashgate convict Oswald Lutepo was on Tuesday last week allowed to have sex with his wife at Chchiri prison.

The development comes amid several calls from inmates and human right activist to allow prisoners enjoy their conjugal rights.

According to information published by Sunday Times, the move was facilitated by one of the prison warders.

When asked, Prison spokesperson Smart Maliro said the authorities do not allow conjugal rights and that Lutepo is not a special one to be allowed sex in jail.

Maliro told Sunday Times that officials at the prison are investigating the matter.

Lutepo is serving 11 years imprisonment with hard labour (IHL) for conspiracy to defraud government and money laundering K4.2 billion, in September, 2015.

Lutepo was transferred from Zomba Mikuyu prison to Chichiri prison in Blantyre and moved to the penal complex on medical grounds.
