Ex-wife to Malawi’s First President Miriam Kaunda reported dead

Information sourced by faceofmalawi indicates that a woman who claimed to have dated the country’s first President Dr. Hasting Kamuzu Banda and a mother to Jumani, Miriam Kaunda.

Kaunda has died in China where she went to visit her daughter.

According to information at hand, Kaunda who was based in Sweden is said to have told her daughter that she was feeling week and unwell before her death.

Miriam Kaunda made headlines in 2012 when she confessed to have dated Kamuzu Banda. It all started by her son by the name of Jumani who jetted into the country and claimed to be a son to Kamuzu.

The development raised eyebrows between Jumani and the Kamuzu family with other family members questioning the motive behind.

“I am not aware of anybody who can claim to be Dr. Banda’s son or child,” says Mr. Ken Kandodo Banda was quoted in one of the local daily papers in the country.

On his part, former President of the Malawi Congress Party, John Tembo quashed the claims, saying it is “utter nonsense” for anybody to claim that Kamuzu had a child or indeed that they are a sibling of Dr. Banda.

“It’s absolutely nonsense. I have never heard of it and I am not going to start hearing it now,” says Mr. Tembo.

Jumani was deported to Sweden following an immigration issues with Malawi authorities shortly after he allegedly called President Bingu wa Mutharika “stupid”.
