Chakwera orders the termination of Pastor Thom’s contract with immediate effect

President Lazarus Chakwera has directed immediate termination of the contract for his special assistant, Pastor Martin Thom.

The State House director of Communications, Sean Kampondeni has confirmed the development.

This follows the pastor’s naming in how one bill found its way to Parliament, jumping protocol.

Pastor Thom who is currently out on police bail was arrested on Tuesday over the same matter today in Lilongwe alongside a senior official from the Ministry of Finance, Nations Msowoya, Malawi Police spokesperson, James Kadadzera, has confirmed that to us.

” (It’s about) allegations of abuse of office and making false documents. The two suspects are in custody at Lilongwe Police Station. Police will give more details later regarding the arrest,” says Kadadzera.

However, it is alleged that the arrests are in connection with a loan authorization bill that dubiously found its way into Parliament without passing through the standard procedure as exposed by The Nation newspaper a few days ago.
