A former teacher in Lilongwe has been arrested for alleged defilement of a 17-year-old girl.
Mathews Zulu, 36, was taken into custody by police for engaging in a relationship with the girl, who was 14 when they first met.
Zulu was a teacher at M’bang’ombe Primary School and is now a data clerk at the M’bang’ombe Teachers’ Development Centre.
The victim’s aunt reported to police that the girl, a former standard 6 student, was pregnant and named Zulu as the responsible party.
The suspect will face charges of defilement under section 138 of the Penal Code.
