A tragic incident has taken place at the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) that has left the student community in mourning.
Michael Mapanje, a second-year student at MUST, tragically lost his life over the weekend after suffering severe head injuries due to a fall from upstairs on campus.
According to a postmortem conducted at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHES) in Blantyre, Mapanje died of severe loss of blood (haemorrhages) caused by his head injuries.
The Thyolo Police deputy spokesperson, Rabecca Kashoti, has stated that Mapanje was allegedly drunk when the accident occurred.
The incident reportedly took place during a social weekend party when Mapanje accidentally fell while trying to step down to the ground floor.
Despite being rushed to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre, Mapanje sadly passed away the following day, leaving the MUST community in shock and disbelief.
