Grant Tsilizani, aged 30, has been sentenced to 9 years imprisonment with hard labour for purchasing an umbilical cord.

The Balaka First Grade Magistrate’s Court found Tsilizani guilty of buying human body parts, specifically the umbilical cord of a newborn baby, for his personal use.

The cord, purchased for K5000, belonged to a woman in Ngongomwa Village who had recently given birth to twins.

Tsilizani pleaded not guilty but was convicted after a full trial. The court imposed a stiff sentence to deter others from engaging in similar illegal activities. T
