The Legal Affairs Committee of Parliament has unanimously sustained a decision by the Director of Public Prosecutions Masauko Chamkakala to discontinue the alleged corruption case involving the vice president Saulos Chilima because it also involved the Malawi Defence Force.

Chairperson Peter Dimba said this today after meeting Chamkakala who appeared before the committee to explain reasons behind the discontinuance of some court cases.

He said the DPP also explained that the Paramount Holdings Limited case was discontinued for lack of substantial evidence.

In this case, suspects were answering three charges related to government procurement deals where the claimant Luthando Holdings accused Paramount Holdings of using forged documents to supply motorcycles in both public and private institutions.

However, Dimba said the committee has resolved that the director of public prosecutions should rescutitate the matter so that the accused should be exonerated through the court process. The DPP Masauko Chamkakala denied to grant us an interview after the meeting.
