HRDC to Hold Vigils at Capital Hill

The Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) have said that aside from the the anti-Jane Ansah demonstrations scheduled for this coming Tuesday, there will be vigils after the protests at Capital Hill on Tuesday and Wednesday.

HRDC Chairperson Timothy Mtambo said this on Sunday when addressing journalists in Lilongwe.

Mtambo said the coalition has exempted Thursday because the constitutional court will on the day start hearing the elections case.

MacDonald Sembereka, HRDC member, has urged Malawians not to report to work on Thursday arguing that people should go to court on the day to follow the proceedings.

On August 8, the Constitutional Court will start hearing the election case whereby United Transformation Movement (UTM) and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) leaders Saulos Chilima and Lazarus Chakwera respectively are challenging the presidential results of May 21 elections.

On the other hand HRDC is holding demonstrations across the country calling for““““““` resignation of Malawi Electoral Commission Chairwoman Jane Ansah for allegedly mismanaging the elections.
