Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has disqualified Presidential adviser on political affairs Elias Wakuda Kamanga from contesting  as member of Parliament for Kasungu North East Constituency in the forthcoming tripartite election.

The decision follows a second legal  opinion  MEC sought  which stated that Kamanga being a Presidential adviser, is a public servant, hence, he can only be allowed to contest as an MP after resigning  from the post before presenting his nomination papers.

Willie Kalonga who happened to be MEC chief elections officer said they informed Kamanga on Wednesday about the disqualification.

When approached for comment, Kamanga said he is not aware of the disqualification.
