Nankhumwa Confirmed as Leader of Opposition in Parliament

As President Lazarus Chakwera is anticipated to deliver the State of the National Address (SONA) later today, Parliament has confirmed Kondwani Nankhumwa as the Leader of the Opposition, Jappie Mhango as the DPP Whip, and Mary Navicha as the DPP Deputy Whip, settling the question of who will hold these positions.

This budget session comes at a time when there are controversies surrounding the leader of the opposition in the main opposition party, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

Days ago, George Chaponda was appointed as the Leader of the Opposition, but Nankhumwa took an injunction against the appointment, which saw the DPP again appointing Navicha as Opposition Leader, but now, parliament has settled for Nankhumwa.

However, Malawians have high expectations and are eagerly waiting to hear what their president has in store for them in the SONA.
