Police in the Capital City have netted five people suspected of taking part in the robbery at Njewa area on February 13, 2024 where criminals broke into a warehouse and went away with 78 bags of groundnuts, 5 digital weighing scales and a sewing machine, all valued at K10.8 million.
The suspects have been identified as Dalitso Mponda, 35 , Chisomo Kajawa, 26 , Lotesi Chakula, 31, Senard Custom, 37, Cosmas Kambale, 26, and Robert Kasimu, 38.
On the said date during night time, the suspects attacked and tied security guards at a warehouse belonging to a certain business woman, broken into, and went away with the said property using a hired 15 tonner lorry.
The suspects, who have admitted to have taken an active role in the robbery, led detectives to various places where 12 bags of the stolen groundnuts have so far been recovered.
Police investigations are underway to recover the remaining property, and arrest the other culprits.
Dalitso Mponda hails from Chizumba Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Dambe, Chisomo Kajawa is from Kochirira Village, T/A Zulu, both in Mchinji, whilst Lotesi Chakula comes from Mvunguti Village, T/A Mkukula, Dowa, Senard Custom is from Khanda Village, T/A Kalolo, Lilongwe, Cosmas Kambale hails from Kapwata Village, T/A Kawamba Kasungu, and Robert Kasimu comes from Chimanga Village, T/A Nsamala in Balaka District.
