In a remarkable display of determination, 26-year-old Tiwonge Kapinga has sat for her Standard 8 Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) exams in Karonga, nearly a decade after leaving school.

Tiwonge, who hails from Kamtenthenkha village under Senior Chief Wasambo, had her education interrupted when she got married in 2016. Now a mother of one, she made the bold decision to return to the classroom at Mazungumika Primary School in Chivundiko village.

Born in 2000, Tiwonge’s daily routine demanded immense physical endurance. Every day, she walked a 12-kilometer round trip to attend classes.

According to the school’s Deputy Headteacher, Mr. Stiff Manguyi, Tiwonge quickly became one of the most hardworking students at the institution. He noted that she never skipped classes and served as an inspiration to younger girls, encouraging those who dropped out due to early pregnancies or other challenges to return to their studies.

Tiwonge stated that she dreams of pursuing higher education and firmly believes that her goals are within reach.
