
University of Malawi supporting staff threatens to go on strike: demands 40 percent pay hike

University of Malawi supporting staff has given President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s government a 21 days ultimatum to hike their salaries by 40 percent or face a sit-in.
The development comes barely two weeks after government ended the salary disparities between Chancellor College lecturers and the University of Malawi (UNIMA) which led to the closure of the college for six months.
According to information at hand, the supporting staff is not happy with UNIMA council for failing to raise their salaries for four years now.
UNIMA Workers Trade Union (UWTU) Secretary General James Khando confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.
