Church of Jesus Christ Latter day’s saints says it will continue taking part in national development

By Robert Kumwenda

The Church of Jesus Latter day’s Saints says it will continue taking part in national development for this country apart from spreading the words of God.

Gabriel Chinomwe District President for Blantyre District for the church said they have a program called self-reliance whose aim is to empower people on how the can run business and wisely use their money.

“The program is open to everyone apart from members of the church, we have been taking part in a number of charitable activities through Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) and government,” he said.

He said in 2002 they assisted people who were affected by hunger by providing them with food, medicine and clothes adding that in 2005 to 2008 we assisted government by providing a vaccine to children that were affected by measles through the ministry of health and he they continue doing that.

He, however expressed his sadness of people’s disbelief about the church saying some people they do not believe if they are really Christians.

“This because most people have no interest to hear and know the history of the church and what we believe in,” he said.

Chinomwe said the church came through Joseph Smith from a ministry that was started by Jesus Christ saying that this all started in 1830 when he saw a vision and in that vision God told him that he a mission with him and he wanted to establish it on earth.

So far the church is present in 170 countries including Malawi, it has branches in Ndirande, Zingwamgwa, Liwonde and Liongwe just to mention a few.
