From October 14, 2025, there will be no new updates or security fixed for either the home or pro versions of Windows 10.

The company says that its successor will represent one of the most significant updates to the operating system in the past ten years.

Windows 7, the version before Windows 10, was retired in 2020 though businesses could pay the company to continue receiving updates.

Windows 10 was released in July 2015.

It was dubbed ‘Windows as a service, which meant that the software could be gradually updated at no extra cost rather than the company releasing a new version of the operating system.

A month after Windows 10 release, many popular webcams stopped working due to a bug the company had to fix. Hundreds of users complained about missing and lost files and their emails not syncing, along with broken WiFi connections and printing.

According to the consumer site,, some users had to pay for computer repairs, and others felt nagged by regular update alerts.

After a year of release, the French data authority said that Windows 10 gathered an excessive amount of personal data on its users.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Chief Product Officer Panos Panay will launch the new OS, which already faces competition from not just Apple but also Google.
