Geoffrey Machonjo ventures into Entrepreneurship, opens Butchery

By Orchestra Kamanga

After failing to harvest tomato in his garden in 2013 at Gadaga in Chileka due to pest called red spider Geoffrey Machonjo has ventured into Butchery Trading named Hagiazo Traders Butchery at Kamba Market in Blantyre.

He said twice he failed to yield tomato in his garden for several reasons ranging from pest (red spider) in 2013 and drought last years-2017.

“Anyone has a dream because dream is for free no charges attached to it so because of that I had a big dream of being a big farmer that’s why a bought a land in my home village in Chileka and I started farming tomato but to my disappointment was the damages which the pest did to my crop eventually I endured to a loss,” he said, adding that last year despite erratic rains he managed to overcome the loss.

He said his first loss in 2013 was due to his transfer from Blantyre to Lilongwe after getting a job to FMB and the one he entrusted to supervise the farm was unexperienced person hence the heavy loss than the one he employed last year.

After these two losses I thought of operating a business in the name Hagiazo Traders Butchery which I opened on May 1, labours day.

“I had a grand opened of the butchery which is situated in Kamba market along Chilobwe road surrounded by Chitawira and naperi houses.

He said the response from the customers are overwhelming and is viable business. The Butchery was established after seeing the gap that was there at Kamba Market where there was no beef market.
